Georgia's Heat Takes a Toll — We Fix That

North Atlanta's combination of intense UV exposure, humidity, pollen, and occasional ice storms is brutal on unprotected wood. Most untreated or poorly treated decks show significant graying, cracking, and mold growth within 2–3 years. A proper clean, prep, and professional stain application every 3–5 years keeps your deck structurally sound and beautiful for decades.

Caesar's Painting handles everything — pressure washing, sanding, replacing damaged boards as needed, and applying the right stain or solid-color coating for your wood type and sun exposure.

Common Questions

Deck Staining FAQs

In North Atlanta's climate, most decks need restaining every 2–4 years depending on wood species, sun exposure, and stain type used. Transparent stains need more frequent reapplication than semi-solid or solid coatings. Annual inspection is recommended.

Stain penetrates the wood fibers and allows the grain to show through (transparent to semi-solid). Paint (solid color) sits on the surface, hides the grain completely, and lasts longer in heavy-use situations. We recommend stain for new or good-condition wood, and solid color for older decks with significant weathering or previous paint.

Yes, but preparation is critical. All peeling and flaking stain must be removed by pressure washing, sanding, or stripping before new product is applied. Applying new stain over failing old stain is the number one cause of premature failure.

Most penetrating stains are dry to the touch in 2–4 hours and ready for light foot traffic in 24 hours. Full cure takes 48–72 hours. We recommend keeping the deck dry for at least 48 hours after application. Weather permitting, most projects are complete in 1–2 days.
